• In 2004, he was criticized for his feud with his elder brother Mukesh Ambani over control over Reliance Industries.

• In March 2022, he stepped down as director of Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure after the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) barred him from trading with any listed companies. The SEBI took this decision against Anil Ambani and three other individuals — Amit Bapna, Ravindra Sudhakar and Pinkesh R Shah for allegedly siphoning off funds from Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL).
